Château Autignac – Vineyard and Chambres d’hôtes – France – 2023 – work in progress
On the hillside, Château Autignac has kept the winemaking tradition alive in the Faugères region.
The renovation project carried out in 2016 by the architecture firm Larroche et Joyeux brings together, within the château and its grounds, an exceptional guesthouse service and the Prés Lasses cellar, a vineyard cultivated using organic farming methods.
In this context, the idea emerged for a water-efficient garden project aligned with the architectural vision of a contemporary design. The concept therefore relies on large, contrasting plant masses that follow the site’s topography, already enhanced by the layout of the terraced retaining walls. A gravel garden extends the benefits of the spa among Mediterranean plants. The existing lawns are reimagined through a selection of less water-intensive alternatives to traditional turf.
